MULTILINGUAL EDUCATION IN UKRAINE

On September 28th and 29th Mr. Luis Perea, English Language Fellow and Lecturer of Applied Linguistics and ESL at V.O. Shukhomlinsky National University of Mykolaiv, along with his colleague Irina Shevchenko, attended a two-day seminar “Multilingual Education in Ukraine” in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. The event took place at Zaporizhzhia National University. At the event, Mr. Luis Perea delivered a key note speech named: “Language Situation in the United States of America”. In such report, Mr. Perea provided a talk about the current linguistic distribution in the United States and the distribution of endangered languages across the globe.
Mr. Perea also presented the following workshops:
“Making Assessments and Test Items More Human for our English Language Learners”
“Creating Analytical and Holistic Rubrics for the ESL Classroom”
“Using Drama and Improvisation to Teach English in the ESL Ukrainian Classroom”
“Creating Lesson Plans and Lesson Objectives for the ESL Classroom”
Both Irina Shevchenko and Luis Perea delivered a workshop called “Using Drama and Improvisation to Teach English in the ESL Ukrainian Classroom”. In this workshop, they provided several techniques to involved teachers in the use of improvisation and drama techniques. They also shared their experience in creating a play performance at the university, shared some video clips and also were supported by one of their students: Maria Khalabuha (246gr.) who came into the workshop and shared her experiences as student participating in this performance.
Mr. Perea along with Masters degree students Oksana Dashko and Olga Nezterenko (506a gr.) started conducting his research on “Language Situation in Ukraine” by interviewing a cadre of teachers and Professors from Zaporizhzhia National University.
