GO CAMP 2018 TRAINING

On October 12th and 13th Mr. Luis Perea, English Language Fellow and Lecturer of Applied Linguistics and ESL at V.O. Shukhomlinsky National University of Mykolaiv, delivered four presentations in the GO Camp 2018 Training in Bereghove, Ukraine. These series of workshops were sponsored by the Global Office and the US Embassy via the RELO Team. Over 50 English teacher participants attended this workshop from all over the region. Presenters included English Language Fellows: Francisco Resto (Sloviansk, Ukraine) and Luis Perea (Mykolaiv, Ukraine), along with presenters from other organizations including the Global Office and the British Council Ukraine.
Mr. Perea’s presentation topics included: “Using Videos in the ESL Classroom” and “Using Drama and Improvisation to Teach English in the ESL Ukrainian Classroom”. Participants watched several videos produced by MNU students as proof of successful practices in the Ukrainian ESL Classroom.
During the conference Mr. Perea along with Masters degree students Tetiana Serbina and Viktoriia Nazarenko (506a gr.) continued conducting the research on “Language Situation in Ukraine”. The teachers and the community as a whole are extremely multilingual in Berehove. Different participants were fluent in Russian, Ukrainian, Hungarian, English and other languages. During the conference students conducted video interviews to a small group of teachers and inquired on the team’s research questions in terms of language use in different contexts, preferences and got a deeper understanding of the diglossic and even triglossic phenomenon occurring in this multilingual region.
